Week beginning 02.12.24

A huge well done to those children who have received certificates for star of the week, presentation and handwriting awards, tackling tables certificates and free reader status this week. Keep up the hard work!

Canaries have had a great start to the festive period, and our class elf has joined us for the lead up to the Christmas holidays.

In literacy, we have continued sentence stacking, creating our own version of the Snowman story by Raymond Briggs.

In maths, we have moved onto multiplication and division. This week we have focused on multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.

In design technology, we have been working on our felt phone cases. We have learnt about different types of stitches and practised our own running stitches.

After that, we started to create our own phone case designs.

Canaries have loved learning to stitch and have started some great designs for their phone cases.

In science, this week we completed our final experiment in our materials' module. The children looked at reversible and irreversible changes. We focused our experiment on ice cubes, exploring how they melt and can then be frozen again, leading us to the conclusion that water/ice is a reversible change. This led nicely to a class discussion about the water cycle.

We also watched a demonstration of an irreversible change, when a solid and liquid reacted and turned into a gas.

We will have one more week of spelling practice leading up to the holidays. These will be sent out on Monday as normal.

Thursday is our library slot. Children will have the opportunity to change their library books in the afternoon.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Bussey, Mrs Gosling and Mrs Fyson.
