Throughout this week all classes have started their new area of P.E. which is gymnastics.

Our infant classes have been working on a range of simple rolls that are low to the floor, these include log roll, tuck roll and an egg roll. The children have learnt how to enter and exit their rolls and know how to execute them with  precision. Below you can see Robins class working on their tuck roll.

In puffins and eagles classes the children have been expanding their knowledge of rolls by practising log rolls and and egg rolls. They have also been increasing their vocabulary word bank with words like extension, tension and core.

Above you can see the starting position of a log roll and below you see the steps taken to perform a tuck roll.

In our lower KS2 classes the children have been working on posture in the body shapes as well as exaggerated extension of the feet.

Some of the shapes below you can see are straddle, tuck and pike. The children then moved onto performing dish and arch shapes.

In our upper KS2, magpies class has been creating short sequences that include a range of balances, including 2 and 3 point balances and counterbalances. Point and patch balances are when you have a set number of  body parts on the floor at one time. Counterbalances show children counteracting each other's body weight.

Canaries class, the children were exploring a range of different ways to push, pull, spin and glide with a partner. Once the groups had explored them, they needed to use their creativity to create a sequence including these four components, but their sequences also had to show fluidity and a range of ways to travel when transitioning from one component to the next.
