Welcome back to another half-term in Canaries class.

A huge well done to those children who have received certificates for star of the week, presentation and handwriting awards, tackling tables certificates and free reader status. Keep up the good work!

This week we have started our new music topic. We have been learning about rock music; specifically a band called Bon Jovi and their song Livin' on a prayer. The children listened and appraised the song, and we were able to find the rhythm which we tapped out using our hands. During our discussion we explored the texture, dynamics and what instruments were used to create the music.

In maths, we are learning addition using the column method and have continued to use our knowledge of place value to ensure the numbers are in the correct place.

In science, we have been learning about materials and their properties. We studied a piece of cable and learnt about how plastic is an insulator and copper is in a conductor. We have also looked at other materials, what their properties are and what they can be used for.

Canaries have shown a real enthusiasm for reading. Please try to encourage reading at least 3 times a week. The children will be able to bring home their banded books and also have access to a library book of their choosing. The library books will be changed every Thursday afternoon.

Thank you for your continued support.
