This week our basketball club started. The children re-visited the rules and skills needed to play a match. We worked on their dribbling technique and also focused on passing. The different passes are used for different reasons, so the children were trying to work out when and why they would need to use the type of pass. Many of the children also worked on attacking, defending and shooting.

In upper KS2,, the children have been working on javelin in athletics. Many of the pupils have now learnt how to categorise different athletics events into either track or field. The children began by using a tennis ball and pull and push technique to release their piece of equipment. Once we had confidently achieved the correct technique, we moved onto using a foam javelin and trying to see who could reach the furthest distance.

Just above, you can see the steps taken and the transferring of weight from the back leg to the front in order to get more power on the release of the javelin.

In Eagles class, the children have continued to work with the college students, learning some basic tennis skills including footwork, aiming and control. Below you can see the children taking part in the burger challenge. This is all about control along with hand-eye coordination.
