Train to Teach

Eastgate Academy is a teaching school and forms part of the Paragon Teaching School Alliance.

What is a Teaching School?

Teaching schools work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system. They take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession. They identify and develop leadership potential; they provide support for other schools, and work with schools in supporting the raising of standards.

Paragon Teaching Alliance

The Paragon Teaching Alliance works in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University to offer a School Direct programme for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) across both the primary and secondary phases. This school-led programme enables successful trainees to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and 60 credits towards a Masters level qualification.

There are several opportunities to meet the School Direct team. We hold open evenings and open mornings throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to meet the key members of staff involved with School Direct and initial teacher training. For more information, including open evenings, please check back soon.
