Our Local Governing Body (LGB) members
Melanie Wellard – Chair
Linda Hothersall – Principal
I am the Principal at Eastgate Academy, having worked here for over five years. I have lived and worked in Norfolk for nearly twenty years in different primary schools both teaching and as a Deputy Head and a Headteacher. I believe strongly that we should provide the best opportunities that we can for all pupils who attend Eastgate and our Local Governing Body supports and challenges us in achieving this.
Louise Gayton – Vice Chair
I work in Local Government and have done for over 10 years; within this I am involved with the trade union. I live and work in King’s Lynn and so the community is very important to me, not least because I have two small children myself, one of whom attends Eastgate. I became a Governor because I’m passionate about learning both in and out of school.
Ann Higgins – Sponsor Governor
This will be my fourth year as a Governor of the school and I find my role has become more challenging but also more interesting and enjoyable since we have become an Academy. As Safeguarding link governor I meet groups of children termly to talk about safety and am always impressed by their knowledge and attitude. When I visit as Read Write Inc link governor I go into all classes and see how hard the children and staff work. I am a retired teacher and have many interests but hope to continue my association with Eastgate Academy.
Brian Elflett – Elected Parent Governor
My background is varied as I have worked at the Lynn News and I am now back in the motor trade. This included running my own garage for a while. I was Chairman of the local branch of Diabetes UK which I gave up to become a Parent Governor as I wanted to do more with the school that my two children attend. I am the Link Governor for Health & Safety.
Claire Gosling– Staff Governor
I joined Eastgate Academy over 4 years ago as a teaching assistant and I have worked in a variety of classes. I recently completed my degree in early years. I am the staff governor and a link governor for SEND. I believe strongly in the importance of education for all.
Val Creasey-New Governor
I became a Governor as I believe all children deserve the best education possible to allow them to reach their highest potential and I wanted to offer any support I could to the Academy for this to occur as it is clearly their belief too
In my day job, I am currently the Attendance and Exclusions Strategy Manger at Norfolk County Council.
Richard Brown – New Governor
‘From a background of secondary Headship and now educational consultancy, I joined the Eastgate Governing Body in January 2017. Although the bulk of my career involved older students, I have always understood the importance of those primary years in education and am pleased to have an opportunity to make a contribution.’
Elanor Westbury – New Governor
Deborah Hinks – Clerk to Governors
I joined the Eastern Multi-Academy Trust in January 2014 and am Clerk to the Trust Board of Directors and also Clerk to the Local Governing Bodies at two more of the Trust’s Academies (Nelson and Downham Market). I am a Business Management graduate and have three children, all of whom have come through the local state education system with considerable success and gone on to Further and Higher Education. I am keen to play a part in helping other local children to do the same.
